Some strong thunderstorms rumbled through the area on Friday night bringing high winds, small hail and torrential down pours with it.

No major structural damage was reported in Cherokee County though there were several reports of trees being brought down as the system moved through – the National Weather Service placed Cherokee County under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning late Friday night for a storm that produced some pea sized hail as it moved through the downtown Centre area.

DeKalb County was placed under a Tornado Warning by the National Weather Service –damage was reported to a home and a garage along Highway 75 and several trees were toppled by high winds with that storm significantly weakening as it passed through.

Friday’s storm did claim at least one life as it passed through – in Lauderdale County, one person was killed in Cloverdale after their vehicle struck a tree that had fallen across the road on Highway 157.
