Some very strong thunderstorms rumbled across Cherokee County on Tuesday night bringing with them torrential down pours, dangerous lightning and strong straight line winds.

We received numerous reports of Cherokee Co. Fire Departments responding to grass/woods fires as a result of lightning, Centre, Leesburg, McCords, Spring Garden, Mt.Weisner and Cedar Bluff Fire Departments all responded to reports of grass fire as the storms rolled through.

The Spring Creek, McCords and Ellisville Fire Departments were called to a report of a structure fire, although it is not known exactly what started the fire. On the northern end of the county the Gaylesville and Broomtown and Cedar Bluff departments responded to reports of trees across roadways.

In the Leesburg, emergency responders were called to the downtown area after strong winds took down the traffic lights on Weiss Lake Blvd. sending live wires across all lanes of traffic.
