Sunday Wreck in Cherokee County Results in Fatality According to State Troopers; Motorcyclist Air-Lifted as Result of Accident that Afternoon / UPDATED

Alabama State Troopers responded to two separate accidents in Cherokee County Sunday – one of those involving a fatality.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report, the fatality occurred in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 278 near County Road 111, at approximately 7:40am when the vehicle, a 2005 Mazda, left the roadway and struck a tree.  The report stated that the victim was a female resident of Piedmont.

Those responding included the Piedmont Rescue Squad – along with the Spring Garden Fire Department and state troopers.  We’ll have additional information once the official news release is issued by ALEA.

The second accident occurred around 5:15pm on Alabama Highway 9, when a motorcyclist lost control and crashed near the airport. 

Upon arrival emergency personnel found the victim lying in the roadway and the individual was air-lifted from the airport to UAB for treatment.  We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
