Suspect Apprehended after Multiple Car Break-ins at Matheny’s Bridge

From the Office of DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden:

On Wednesday a suspect was apprehended in connection with a number of car break-ins at Matheny’s Bridge – which is located at the intersection of County Roads 43 and 56, near the DeKalb/Jackson County Line.

Over the month of July the DeKalb and Jackson County Sheriff’s offices have taken a number of reports of vehicles being broken into – as people were swimming in the creek around the bridge.

Most of the items stolen were wallets and cell phones, and in most instances windows were smashed out of cars to steal the items inside.

Investigators, Deputies and DeKalb County Narcotics Unit Agents conducted an undercover operation in an attempt to catch the suspect in the act.  Several hours into that operation, a suspect that investigators had previously identified was caught stealing from a vehicle.

Robbie Lewis, 41 of Dutton, was apprehended in the parking area at approximately 4:00pm and is being held in the DeKalb County Detention Center on charges of Breaking & Entering a Vehicle, four counts.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind anyone swimming at Matheny’s Bridge or doing any other outdoor activity in DeKalb County to please remember to lock your car.

Also, either take valuables with you, or hide them in your vehicle, so they cannot be seen by someone looking for an opportunity to steal.
