Suspect In Custody Following High Speed Pursuit That Spanned Cherokee, Etowah Counties And Ended In Georgia

Law Enforcement officers were involved in a high speed pursuit on Monday which began in Etowah County and continued into Cherokee County on Highway 411 North.

The chase continued through Leesburg where Leesburg Police Chief Lanny Ransum along with Cherokee County deputies and Investigators also joined the pursuit. The driver continued through downtown Centre where speeds reached in excess of 100 miles per hour, when Centre Police also joined the chase.

According to reports the male suspect was in a vehicle reported stolen out of Conyers, Georgia. A female passenger inside the vehicle was unharmed and there were no weapons found inside the car.

The pursuit ended just inside Floyd County, Georgia near Rhonda’s Store with the suspect being taken into custody by Floyd County authorities. The suspect identified as 47 year old David Phillips of an Etowah County address will be charged in Floyd County with Transporting Stolen Property Across State Lines.

Phillips will then be extradited back to Alabama where he will face charges in Etowah County.

Cherokee County Chief of Investigations Josh Summerford said that this is not related to the double homicide case which occurred on Sunday on County Road 19.
