Suspect Shot Twice After Opening Fire on Drug Task Force Agents Tuesday / UPDATE

Additional information has now been released on the officer involved shooting occurring in Boaz early Tuesday morning.

According to Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin Boaz Police Officers and Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit Agents had gone to the residence at 100 Pleasant Grove Cut Off just prior to 9:00am to serve an arrest warrant and a search warrant – when 64 year old Arnold Battles fired on officers as they tried to enter the front door.

Officers returned fire, hitting Battles twice; he was air-lifted from the scene to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.  No additional information on his condition has been released.  No officers were injured.  The warrant for Battles’ arrest was reportedly for drug distribution.

The Oxford Police Department will be heading up that investigation, with the JSU Center for Applied Forensics gathering evidence.
