Suspect Wounded In Deputy Involved Shooting In Chattooga County

A suspect has been shot by a Chattooga County sheriff’s deputy this afternoon.

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader told AM 1180 that county deputies were assisting the Summerville Police Department in investigating a smash and grab robbery that occurred in Summerville on Monday night.

Law enforcement located the suspect and the suspect ran. A deputy later spotted the suspect and gave chase on foot.

When the deputy apprehended the suspect there was a struggle. Sheriff Schrader said that the suspect grabbed the deputy’s gun; the deputy was then able to get the weapon away from the suspect and shot the suspect in the abdomen.

The suspect has been taken by Lifeforce to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. The suspect’s condition is not known at this time.

Sheriff Schrader said that he has contacted the GBI who will be investigating the shooting of the suspect by the deputy which is standard procedure.
