Sylvania Teen Arrested on Burglary and Theft Charges

DCSO - Kaleb Austin Hamby

A 19 year old Sylvania man, Kaleb Austin Hamby, has been arrested on charges stemming from a burglary occurring at a home in Sylvania and a theft at the Henagar Wonder Wash.

According to DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris – Henagar Police Officers took a report of extensive damage and a missing money terminal at the Henagar Wonder Wash on Highway 40 – the theft and damage apparently occurred overnight April 11th, and was discovered the following morning by an off-duty police officer.

Damage to the property was estimated at $3,000 – with the missing money terminal being valued at approximately $10,000. That terminal was located on April 13th, by police in a remote area of Henagar.

Sheriff’s Office investigators followed up on several leads and began to develop information that led them to the burglary in Sylvania, which turned out to be connected to the Henagar case.

The arrest of Hamby appears to be the first step in a larger case.

Sheriff Harris says additional arrests are expected soon.

Hamby has been charged with – Burglary 3rd Degree, the Theft of Property 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He remains in the DeKalb County Detention Center on bonds totaling $48,000.
