Teen Rescued From The River Near Heritage Park In Rome

Quick work by Rome Police, firefighters and others aided in the rescue of one of two teens who jumped into the river near the pedestrian bridge connecting Bridgepoint Plaza and Heritage Park Tuesday evening several times but then got caught in the current.

According to Hometown Headlines, One of the duo managed to get back to shore while the other — a 16-year-old male — held on to a bridge piling as rescuers arrived, said Sgt. Brandon Pledger of the Rome Police Department. Officers were able to lower a buoy to the teen and he held on as the Rome Fire Department launched a water rescue team, says Pledger.

Safely ashore, the teen was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Pledger says there were no visible injuries but he had been in the water for some time and the water “is still kind of cold.”
