Temporary Medical Unit Being Constructed At Floyd Medical Center, Unit Will House COVID-19 Patients

Hometown Headlines reports that a mobile 20-bed unit donated by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency is going up in the front parking lot of Floyd Medical Center. The unit is one of four temporary medical units that will provide an additional 88 hospital beds across the state as facilities prepare for COVID-19 patient surge. The unit is expected to be operational by the end of April.

According to a release from Gov. Brian Kemp, in addition to the Rome unit, another with 20 beds will be located in Albany, one unit with 24 beds will be placed in Atlanta, and one more unit with 24 beds will be available to deploy based on community needs. These will be deployed in mid-April.

In addition, Floyd Medical Center has been converting rooms in the former Kindred Hospital building, now the northeast wing of the hospital, into negative pressure rooms for coronavirus patients. Fencing has been set-up around building for the project.
