Drew Angerer/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who sustained multiple rib fractures and lung injuries as a result of an attack by his neighbor, is returning to Washington D.C. Monday for the first votes of the week, a source close to Paul told ABC.
The assailant, 59-year-old Rene Boucher, was arrested by Kentucky State Police after the November 3rd attack and was charged with fourth-degree assault, authorities said.
“Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault,” a spokeswoman said last week.
Paul has been recuperating at home since the attack.
It is possible that federal charges will be filed against Boucher. Attacking a member of Congress is a federal crime.
