Vaccinations against COVID-19 continue in Alabama.
According to the latest information provided by the Alabama Department of Public Health – as of January 2nd, Alabama had given out a total of 42,810 doses of COVID vaccine.
That’s less than 20% of the 226,250 doses allocated for Alabama so far.
Initially available only in large hospitals and major medical facilities – the vaccines are now being distributed at smaller hospitals and county health departments – in addition to three independent pharmacies in the state. Doses are still being reserved for those who fall under Phase 1-A of the Vaccine Allocation plan – mostly frontline health care workers, emergency medical personnel and nursing home residents and staff.
Health officials in Etowah and Calhoun County have announced that anyone over the age of 75 could receive the vaccine this week as well as other populations included in Phase 1-B of the Vaccine Allocation Plan.
