The Alabama Department of Public Health is reporting the death of a teenager and an infant – both attributed to coronavirus.
The statistics were included in the daily update by ADPH and later confirmed by the agency. Both patients tested positive for COVID-19; that infant death is under review for underlying health conditions. Neither patient suffered Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome-Children, the coronavirus-linked syndrome that’s been reported.
According to a statement that was issued by the Alabama Department of Public Health “Due to respect for the families of the patients, and HIPAA guidelines – the ADPH cannot release further details of these investigations,”
The deaths are the first COVID-related of anyone under 25 in the state. Both are currently listed among the 36 Alabama residents which have died from the virus – despite having no underlying conditions.
Alabama has had 739 coronavirus deaths, with the median age of 68.
