The Holiday Travel Period isn’t Over Yet – Drive with Care

The Labor Day Holiday travel period isn’t over yet.

A large number of motorists will be returning home from weekend outings and visits with family members and friends, making today an extremely busy day on Alabama’s roadways.

For the safety of travelers, all construction industry workers and maintenance crews alike – the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) – has NO temporary lane closures on the interstate through midnight tonight (Monday, September 6th)

Bear in mind, roadway improvement projects are in place across Alabama and those lowered speed limits may remain in place in those areas,

ALDOT suggests following these simple guidelines to keep yourself and others safe:

  • Don’t tailgate.  Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
  • Make sure that everyone in your vehicle buckles up.  Surviving a crash is much more likely when wearing a seat belt.
  • Drivers should never text or use any type of mobile device while operating any vehicle.
  • And never drive under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance.

Make safety first as we wind up the holiday travel period.
