“The Mummy” and “It Comes at Night” top this week’s new releases

Universal Pictures – 2017(LOS ANGELES) — Here’s a look at the new movies opening nationwide Friday:

The Mummy — In this reboot of the horror-adventure film, Tom Cruise, as an American mercenary who robs ancient artifacts and sells them, accidentally awakens a mummy — played by Sofia Boutella — who wreaks havoc in the streets of London. Also starring Russell Crowe, New Girl‘s Jake Johnson and Annabelle Wallis. Rated PG-13.

It Comes at Night — A man — played by Joel Edgerton — sees the shaky domestic new order he’s created with his family to escape an unnatural threat that terrorizes the world, put to the test when a desperate young family arrives seeking shelter. Rated R.

Megan Leavey — Kate Mara stars in this docudrama, based on the true story of a young Marine corporal who trains an aggressive military combat dog with whom she completes more than 100 missions before injuries endanger their fates. Bradley Whitford also stars. Rated PG-13. Rated PG-13.

Opening Friday in limited release:

Beatriz at Dinner — Selma Hayek plays Beatriz, a kind-hearted Mexican immigrant who builds a career as a health practitioner and crosses paths with her polar opposite — played by John Lithgow — at a dinner party. Also starring Nashville‘s Connie Britton. Rated R.

My Cousin Rachel — A young Englishman  — played by The Hunger Games‘ Sam Claflin — plots revenge against his mysterious, beautiful cousin — portrayed by Rachel Weisz — but soon finds himself spellbound by her charms. Rated PG-13.
