The Stubborn History Between Democrats and Donkeys

ABCNews.com(NEW YORK) — The donkey has been widely associated with the Democratic Party for years and it is believed to have started out as an insult.

The party’s connection with the donkey originated when Andrew Jackson, the seventh U.S. president, was dubbed a “jackass” by some of his political opponents, and then a cartoonist took it from there.
