The University of Alabama System Suspends Requirements for Employees to be Vaccinated Against COVID

The University of Alabama System has suspended its requirements for employees to be vaccinated against COVID, after federal courts blocked the Biden administrations’ mandates.  UAB, which is part of the UA System, said it “will not be required to take action regarding unvaccinated employees on January 4th” – referring to the date that the Biden administration mandated employees at federal contractors, including UAB, had to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

UAB and Auburn fell under the White House executive order mandating government contractors be vaccinated against COVID-19 by early January; however, those orders, challenged by Republican Attorneys General – including the state of Alabama’s Steve Marshall – have been blocked by the courts.

Auburn officially announced Tuesday of this week it would be “pausing enforcement” of the mandate, stating “We’ll continue to monitor legal challenges to the most recent court order, and we will communicate any further modifications in response to those legal developments.”
