Ft Payne Police Officers went to Deerfield Apartments to serve a warrant on Jeffery Delane Watts, age 45 at approximately 5:20 Saturday afternoon, April 6th and as they attempted to take Watts into custody several of his family members attempted to interfere and assaulted officers on the scene.
Watts was eventually taken into custody on the warrant that officers were there to serve.
Ft Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum said that Watts was also charged with Resisting Arrest, Possession of Marijuana second degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Two other subjects were arrested on the scene: James Michael Lewis, age 26 from Ft Payne was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication; Richard Edward McDaniel, age 24 from Ft Payne – was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication.
Warrants were obtained Monday April 8th for a third subject that interfered with the arrest – Courtney Lashay Clark, age 24 of Ft Payne. Clark was not arrested at the scene because after she assaulted an officer and was tasered she was transported to a local hospital, when it was discovered that she was pregnant.
