Three men have been charged with stealing campers after the flooding in Cherokee County.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s investigators recently recovered four stolen campers, in addition to an enclosed utility trailer – totaling well over $100,000 in value.

Sheriff Jeff Shaver said that those campers were stolen from the area of Lindsey’s Store, and were campers that had been moved due to the recent flooding in the county.  Investigators recovered three of those campers in Floyd County near Rome; meanwhile one was recovered in DeKalb County near Henagar, and the utility trailer was recovered from a residence on County Road 7.  It has since been returned to the rightful owner in Oxford. 

Three suspects have been charged in connection with the camper theft.  Two of the three – Ronnie Heath Norton, age 47 of Temple, Georgia, and Christopher Junior Clonts, 51 of Rome, Georgia, were taken into custody in Floyd County and will be extradited to Cherokee County.  The third individual, Gary Jody Childers, age 44 of Henagar was arrested and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.  All three will face three counts of first degree theft of property in Cherokee County.
