Three People Shot In An Early Morning Attempted Robbery

Three people were shot in an attempted armed robbery at the One Stop Shop at the corner of Maple and 20th streets between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

Lt. Gary Clayton of the Rome Police Department said two black males entered the store with the gun and attempted to rob the store.

The clerk had a gun and shot at the suspect, who shot back.

An unknown amount of shots were fired and two customers were hit. One customer has a superficial wound and another is undergoing surgery.

One of the suspects was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center for treatment. The clerk was not injured.

The second suspect got away and police are actively following leads this morning. They remain on the scene gathering information.
