Three Including A Leesburg Officer And Rescue Worker Transported To The Hospital Following A Water Rescue At Leesburg Landing

Three individuals were treated by Floyd EMS Medics during a water rescue on Monday afternoon at Leesburg Landing. Emergency crews responded after receiving a 911 call just before 5:30 p.m. reporting a 13 year old female was stuck in the current just off of the dock at the end of the landing.

A Leesburg Police Officer was one of the first on the scene; he along with several members of the Cherokee County Rescue Squad went into the water, assisting them in staying above water until rescue boats could arrive.

The Officer, a Rescue Squad member and another victim were transported to Floyd-Cherokee Medical Center for treatment. Two other victims were treated at the scene and released.

Several departments responded to assist including, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Leesburg Police, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Floyd EMS and the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency.

Leesburg Police Chief Brent Grimes told WEIS Radio that all those that were taken to the hospital are ok and expected to make full recoveries.
