Thursday a Busy Day for Cherokee County First Responders

Thursday was a busy day for first responders in Cherokee County.

18 wheeler firethe Centre and Leesburg Fire Departments and the Centre Police Department responded to the scene of an 18 wheeler accident, at the Intersection of County Road 7 and Highway 411, close to the Leesburg Bridge that afternoon.

Traffic was reduced to one lane while workers repaired the axle on the rear wheel that had caught fire – fortunately, no one was hurt.

Emergency personnel also responded to a two vehicle wreck just after 4:00pm on Highway 9 approximately two miles south of Centre.

Huck 2According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report, that mishap involved a 1998 Nissan being driven by 17 year old Cheyenne Atkinson of Piedmont.

Both she and a 14 year old passenger in the vehicle, Destiny Cobb of Leesburg – were listed as being hurt in that crash, although no additional information was available regarding the extent of their injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelts.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 1998 Toyota, was listed as 29 year old Patrick Tierce from Piedmont; he was unhurt.

Both the Centre and Ellisville Fire Departments along with Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene.

Troopers also worked a single vehicle accident on County Road 50 in Sand Rock at 7:15pm

That wreck involved a 2003 Chevrolet, driven by 22 year old Samuel LeCroy from Leesburg – he was unhurt, however a passenger, 33 year old Shawna Waldrop, also of Leesburg, was listed on the report as being injured.

Those accidents remain under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
