THURSDAY CHEROKEE COUNTY TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP: Leeks lead Cedar Bluff boys past Gaylesville

CENTRE – Bucky Leek scored a game-high 22 points and Anbre Leek connected on three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points to lead the Cedar Bluff Tigers to a 69-43 basketball victory over Gaylesville Thursday night in the Cherokee County Tournament.

Connor Flynt also tossed in 14 points fo the Tigers. Carter Tucker and Jacob Burleson finished with seven and six points respectively.

Keylon Higgins topped the Trojan scorers with 12 points. Tanner Eads tallied nine points, including a pair of treys. Hunter Penney and Gage White finished with six and five points respectively.

Cedar Bluff jumped out to a 24-12 first-quarter advantage and built a 48-18 lead by halftime. The Tigers led 58-35 at the end of three quarters.

Cedar Bluff advances to face top-seeded Sand Rock on Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Girls

Cedar Bluff 36, Gaylesville 23

CENTRE – Jordyn Walker sank four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 14 points in leading the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers to a 36-23 basketball victory over Gaylesville in the Cherokee County Tournament on Thursday.

Maggie Clowdis contributed eight points for the Lady Tigers. Za’Niya Kyle finished with six points.

Paisley Bryson led the Lady Trojans with nine points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Gaylesville held a 5-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but Cedar Bluff took a 13-8 lead into halftime. The Lady Tigers led 19-15 at the end of three quarters and went on a 17-8 run in the fourth for the final.

Cedar Bluff advances to meet top-seeded Spring Garden at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Junior Varsity Boys

Sand Rock 49, Spring Garden 41

CENTRE – Logan Crider netted a game-high 17 points to lead the Sand Rock Junior High Boys to a 49-41 victory over Spring Garden in the Cherokee County Tournament on Thursday.

Jacob Cornejo collected 10 points for the Wildcats. Brian Giles sank a pair of 3-pointers and had nine points. Aaron Ashley finished with five points.

D’Angelo Wright led the Panthers with 14 points, including a pair of treys. Cole Bailey also connected on two 3-pointers and had eight points. Chapel Pope posted seven points. Jon Marq Rogers and Reese Weinstead both finished with five points.

Spring Garden held a 16-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a 21-16 lead at halftime before the Wildcats rallied.

Sand Rock took a 32-31 edge at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Panthers 17-10 in the fourth for the final.

Sand Rock takes on Cherokee County for the junior varsity boys title on Saturday at 4 p.m.
