Town Of Cedar Bluff Swears In New Administration

The Town of Cedar Bluff ushered in a new administration on Monday, officially swearing in the new Mayor and Council for the next four years.

Things will remain the same with the exception of one new Councilmember, Lorrie Green who will fill the seat recently held by Billie Burkhalter.

Each Councilmember along with Mayor Tammy Crane was administered the Oath of Office by Cherokee County Probate Judge Kirk Day.

The council also held their organizational meeting during which Norman Burton was unanimously appointed as Mayor Pro-Tem. The council also approved the establishment of schedule for regular meetings for each month; the workshops will take place on the second Monday at 5:00 with the regular meeting to follow at 5:30.

The council also unanimously reappointed Susie Surrett as Town Clerk and Steve Walden as Police Chief for another four years. Attorney Laura Lloyd was also reappointed as the Town’s Legal Council.

Also approved during that meeting was a Resolution Designating Depository for all Town Accounts.

One appointment was made to fill a vacant seat on the Cedar Bluff Utility Board, Mayor Crane made the recommendation that James “Bo” Martin fill that seat and that motion passed unanimously.

Mayor Crane also appointed three individuals to the town’s Planning & Zoning Board with those being Loretta Higgins, John Hyatt and Bob Pickerel.

During the council’s regular meeting the council the monthly report was presented from Police Chief Steve Walden.  The Budget for Fiscal Year 2016/2017 was approved with an amendment to include the purchase of a 2017 model fully equipped Brush Truck for the Fire Department in addition to a fifty cent per hour cost of living raise for town employees, an increase from $6.00 per call to $10.00 per call for firefighters, a $100 per month increase for Fire Chief Shawn Rogers and the donation to the school from the alcohol fund.

The council also adopted a Resolution authorizing Mayor Tammy Crane to execute a Lease Agreement with Alabama Power for property that is the proposed Cedar Beach Park on the end of Reese Street.
