Town Of Leesburg Accepts Resignation Of Police Chief And Announces Open Applications For The Position

The Leesburg Town Council held a very brief Special Called meeting on Monday to accept the resignation of newly appointed Police Chief Brian Gilliland and to officially announce that the Town would be accepting applications for a period of three weeks through February 17th and the council will make a decision during the March 6th meeting.

Leesburg Mayor Brandy Pierce expelled rumors that the town council was considering disbanding the police department and having the sheriff’s department take over policing the town. Pierce said that at this time that is not an option and that the town is looking at hiring a full staff as quickly as possible.

Gilliland will be leaving the Town of Leesburg to resume his previous duties as a deputy with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department.
