Traffic Backed up on the Chesnut Bypass Following Diesel Fuel Spill

Traffic was backed up on the Chesnut Bypass in Centre on Wednesday morning, after a dump truck dropped a drive shaft between the trade school and Jack’s Restaurant a short time before 8:00.

As a result of the mechanical mishap a fuel tank was ruptured on the vehicle and that sent diesel fuel into the roadway.

Those responding to the scene included Centre Police and Fire units, and members of the Cherokee County EMA who contacted the Alabama Department of Transportation for help in cleaning up the substantial amount of fuel spilled from the damaged tank.
