UPDATE| Contractors Are Preforming Patch Work Along U.S. 411, Work Should Be Complete Mid-Friday

Traffic Alert 1

UPDATE| We spoke with ALDOT District Supervisor Cody Adams Thursday afternoon and he informed us that contractors are doing patch work on that stretch of road and that the work should be completed by mid-Friday afternoon.

The only role ALDOT has in the process is in inspection of the work.

Adams said that crews will return Friday morning to complete the work and motorist should plan to take an alternate route or allow yourself a little extra time for travel.

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED|

aldot 1WEIS Radio News has received call after call after call, from motorists traveling on Highway 411 from Cherokee County to Etowah County complaining about extremely long wait times during road work taking place not too far from the county line.

Those calls started coming in Thursday morning, with various motorists claiming that their wait times were 25 minutes, 45 minutes and in one case one hour, 56 minutes.

In addition to the frustration of the unexpected delay, callers were upset because they were being forced to call and re-schedule meetings and doctor appointments.

WEIS Radio News was not notified on any roadwork being done in the area; if we had been informed, we would’ve been able to warn motorists to allow extra time for their travel or to choose an alternate route.  Neither the Department of Transportation, nor the Construction Company saw fit to allow us to assist them in this matter.

Residents of Cherokee County may well remember similar problems in regard to extremely  long delays during similar road work in the past.

We’ve reached out to the Alabama Department of Transportation Office in Gadsden – asking to speak with Manager Jim Runyan regarding the situation and we were told he was “out on the site.”  We left a message, and are at this time, awaiting a return call.

We’ll keep you updated as we obtain additional information
