Trees/Power Lines Downed During Monday’s Storm Resulting In Widespread Power Outages

Damage from Monday’s Severe Weather that rolled though the area was widespread across the northern portions of the county with numerous trees and power lines being reported down as the system made its way across Weiss Lake resulting in widespread power outages.

Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers reported trees down in the Sand Valley Road area 2 miles northeast of Centre as well as on Holman Street and on County Road 146 in Leesburg.

Trees and power lines were also reported down on Alabama Highway 68 East and at the intersection of Hidden Point Drive and Oak Drive in Cedar Bluff resulting in a brief power outage in that area.

Rogers said that a camper on County Road 450 was damaged after trees and power lines fell on top of it, fortunately everyone was able to safely get out without injuries.

 Trees power lines were also reported down at a residence on County Road 76. There was also a two vehicle accident that occurred during the storm on Alabama Highway 9 North in Cedar Bluff; reports indicated that no one was injured in the mishap.
