Trion Man Dies From Injuries Sustained in Floyd County Wreck Last Week; Driver in Other Vehicle Jailed

A Chattooga County man involved in a Floyd County accident last week has passed away as a result of injuries sustained in that wreck.

The accident took place last Tuesday (January 9th) when a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado driven by Ernest Irvin Greenleaf, age 62, of Shannon, Georgia collided with a Buick LeSabre, driven by 77 year old Jean Deloris Hammonds.  According to a Georgia State Patrol accident report, Greenleaf was in the process of turning onto Highway 140 when he struck the vehicle driven by Hammonds.  Both she and her husband, 83 year old Charles E. “Buddy” Hammonds of Trion were carried to Floyd Medical Center for treatment; Charles Hammonds died Friday.

Greenleaf was jailed last Thursday and charged by the Georgia State Patrol with two counts of Serious Injury by Vehicle, DUI, Open Container and Failure to Yield while Turning Left.
