Truck VS Deer in Downtown Centre

A man hit a deer, damaging his truck, around 8:10 Monday morning, on West Main Street in Centre.  Fortunately, the driver was unhurt.  He pulled over into the parking lot of Cherokee Glass – where he spoke with Centre Police officers to file an incident report.  The man told Chief Kirk Blankenship the buck was on him before he had a chance to react, causing him to strike the deer with the right front bumper, breaking out a headlight and leaving moderate damage to the front fender.

Chief Blankenship told WEIS Radio that his department has already seen a large number of vehicle VS deer accidents inside the city limits this year, adding that motorists should be on the lookout not only on the open road but in town as well.

He noted “People tend to forget that even in town, we are still surrounded by wooded areas that are full of deer, and they sometimes wander into these populated locations – you really have to keep your guard up at all times”
