Two Anniston Residents Charged With Felony Child Abuse

child abuse arrestAnniston Police say two people are in custody in connection with the abuse of a two-year-old girl. Capt. Allen George said in a news release that Anniston Police were notified of a Calhoun County Department of Human Resources case involving the toddler.

George said that DHR removed the child from her home and consulted with a doctor for a medical examination. An exam and x-rays revealed multiple bruises, two healing fractured ribs, as well as recent and healing cigarette burns on the child’s hands, feet and abdomen. These were characterized as “medical neglect,”

28 year old Jeremy Dewayne Wilbanks and 26 year old Lisa Anne Smith both of Anniston were arrested on felony child abuse charges and are currently in the Anniston Municipal Jail.

Smith is being held on $20,000 bond, while Wilbanks is being held on the same amount and a $1,630 cash bond for an alias warrant.
