Two Arrested After Texting the Wrong Number to Set up Drug Deal

Drug Duo 101Additional information has been released regarding the arrest of two Anniston residents on drug charges in Cherokee County late Monday night.

According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver, 28 year old David Mallory Shelton and Megan Dee Hall, age 36, both of Anniston, were taken into custody in the parking lot of the Centre Walmart after purchasing a large quantity of crystal methamphetamine, from an undercover officer in the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation and Counter-Drug Unit.

The pair made contact with investigators after accidentally texting the wrong number – and then made arrangements to purchase the illegal drugs from the undercover officer. Shelton and Hall had no idea that they were communicating with the wrong person until they were taken into custody.

Sheriff Shaver wants to remind and encourage the citizens of Cherokee County to report any suspicious activity or suspected drug activity to the Criminal Investigation and Counter-Drug Unit by calling their office directly at 256-927-5646 or the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 256-927-9999.
