Two Arrested Following Failed Burglary Attempt

CCSO - Hudgins and Ward

A pair of Calhoun County men are behind bars, after managing to get their getaway vehicle stuck in the mud outside the mobile home they had just broken into.

Sheriff Larry Amerson told the Anniston Star that Jesse Lee Ward, age 23, and 32 year old Jason William Hudgins were caught earlier in the week after a man who owned the home noticed that a gate to the property had been opened and the front door to the mobile home was open; instead of stopping, he simply drove on by and called the sheriff’s office.

When officers arrived on the scene, the two men bailed and ran; Hudgins was quickly caught, but Ward managed to elude officers for about 45 minutes before backtracking to the home and trying to leave in the Ford Explorer he had arrived in, however, it was stuck – and so was he.

Stolen property was recovered from the vehicle – and both Hudgins and Ward were arrested and charged with third degree burglary and attempting to elude law enforcement officers – Ward was charged with the possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest, meanwhile Hudgins had a drug possession charge.
