Two Arrested Following Shooting Death of Gadsden Man

ECSO - Young, Tyree (Murder)

Gadsden Police responded to an assault call at College Manor Apartments over the weekend.

Officers were dispatched around 7:15 Sunday morning to the apartment complex at the Piedmont Cutoff – where they arrived to find 38 year old Gadsden resident William Meadows, lying on the living room floor of his girlfriend’s apartment.  He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and he was immediately transported to Gadsden Regional Medical Center, before being transferred to UAB – where he died about 10:00pm.

The victim’s girlfriend told investigators that she heard a knock at the front door – and Meadows had gone to answer it – when she heard a scuffle followed by a single gunshot.

She said two men one of whom she recognized, then entered the apartment and searched through a couple of rooms before fleeing the scene.  It’s believed that the incident was a case of a robbery or home invasion gone bad.

After gathering information from witnesses at the scene, Gadsden Police located and arrested the two suspects in under an hour.

Both 19 year old Tyree Young and 21 year old Dexter Harris were arrested at a home in the 1200 block of Florence Avenue.

They are currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center without bond; that pending warrants for Capital Murder, which are expected to be served later today (Monday, February 3rd)
