Two Charged with Killing Berry College Student

Investigators have now charged two individuals with the murder of a Berry College student

Ricket Damon Carter III of Columbus, and Troy Jamal Cokley of Riverdale, both age 19, each stand charged with murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of controlled substance in relation to the incident. Police allege that the pair traveled to Rome to meet Joseph McDaniel, and an argument then ensued, resulting in the death of the Berry student, who is also from Columbus.  Police responded to 12 Summer Stone Drive Apartment C at around 2:30 Saturday morning following a report of shots fired to Floyd 9-1-1.

Investigators followed information which eventually led them to Columbus, Georgia, where the suspects were found and detained in an apartment complex.

The Floyd County Police Department would like to extend its appreciation to the Columbus Police Department for their assistance and support and to the Georgia Information Sharing Analysis Center for their assistance in the investigation.
