Two Charged with Possession of “Spice” Following Traffic Stop

A recent traffic stop conducted by a Rainsville Police Officer resulted in a man and a woman being arrested on drug charges.

The pair was pulled over near the intersection of Horton and Kirk Roads, and a quick check revealed that the driver, Brad Giffin of Fyffe, had active warrants out of Jackson County. The other occupant of the vehicle, Kathryn Friedlander of Illinois, was found to be wanted on an active warrant in that state.

While conducting a consent search of the vehicle the officer discovered ten grams of “Spice” – Giffin also admitted to having an additional amount of the drug at his residence.  The Rainsville Police Department and the DeKalb County Drug Task Force then went to that location and searched the home, where they found two more ounces of Spice.  Both Giffin and Friedlander were arrested on the outstanding warrants and also charged on new counts of Unlawful Possession of Uncontrolled Substance and the Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, before being transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
