Two Charged With Trafficking Heroin In Gadsden

Two individuals have been charged with trafficking in heroin in Etowah County, according to Commander Randall Johnson.

  • Chauncey Edwin Kynard, 46, of Gadsden, is charged with trafficking heroin, one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of salvia, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal trespass 3rd.
  • Mercedes Vonshawnra Poole, 27, of Gadsden, is charged with trafficking in heroin, one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of salvia, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

On June 19, 2018, Agents executed a search warrant at a residence located on Jacksonville Court in Gadsden, AL. The search warrant was based on drug sales from the residence.

During the search, agents recovered approximately 10.5 ounces of heroin, controlled medication (hydrocodone), a bag of salvia, digital scales, and approximately $7800 in cash.

DHR was contacted and responded to the scene in regards to a seven year old child who was present in the house.

Kynard is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $78,600 bond. Poole is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $53,500 bond.

 

This investigation is still ongoing and KYNARD and POOLE could face additional state and federal charges related to the drugs seized.

 

The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, Gadsden Police Department, Alabama National Guard Counterdrug Program, and FBI Safe Streets Task Force participated in the case.
