Ft Payne Police arrested two individuals on drug trafficking charges over the weekend.

Chief Randy Bynum said that officers were on routine patrol around 9:15 Saturday night in the 900 block of Godfrey Avenue North – when a vehicle was pulled over for a simple traffic violation.  As officers approached the car, they detected a very strong odor of marijuana; upon making contact with the driver they spotted between the console and passenger seat, in plain sight, a bag containing “spice”.

According to Chief Bynum, a subsequent search of that vehicle turned up a large amount of methamphetamine, synthetic marijuana (otherwise known as ‘spice’), and various items of drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the vehicle 42 year old Misty Dawn Stiefel of a Fyffe address was placed under arrest and charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The passenger, Wanda Jeanee Newsome, age 29 of a Ft Payne address, was also arrested on the same charges.
