Two Cherokee County Deputies Receive Life Saving Awards

June 1According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Deputies Jeremy Stepps and David Kirk have been presented with “Life-Saving” awards, for their actions in response to a domestic situation taking place at a Gaylesville residence in June.

When the deputies arrived on the scene, they were informed that the suspect had fled into the woods behind the house. As they searched the woods they saw the man climb a tree, tie a rope around his neck, and jump.

Stepps and Kirk rushed to the suspect, cut the rope, and lowered him to the ground.

The man was breathing but unconscious. He was air-lifted to an area hospital for treatment and made a full recovery.

Sheriff Shaver stated the deputies demonstrated a high level of courage and commitment to duty by rushing to the aid of this man, even though he was suspect of criminal activity at the time, and helping save his life.

Shaver added he is extremely proud to have these two deputies serving the citizens of Cherokee County. The awards were recognized by the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum.
