Two Killed When Train Strikes Car in Oxford

Two people, a seven year old boy and his mother, were fatally injured when the car they were in was struck by a train early Saturday morning at an Oxford railroad crossing.

The Anniston Star reports that 35 year old Temeshica Chatman, and her son Nytavioun Powell – were crossing the tracks on Coleman Road just before 6:00 that morning when the accident took place.

Chatman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the seven year old was pronounced dead later that morning at Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the 2006 Pontiac Grand Am was listed as 20 year old Taneshya Chatman, who was air-lifted to UAB Hospital suffering serious injuries; she is reportedly the daughter of Temeshica Chatman.

Police stated the crossing bars and flashing warning lights were operating properly when officers arrived on the scene – the accident remains under investigation.
