Questions Remain in Cherokee County Missing Person Cases

michael-adam-maddoxOne of two missing person cases being worked by Cherokee County authorities has now come to an end.  The body of 31 year old Michael Adam Maddox of Cedar Bluff was discovered over the weekend when an individual checking his boathouse noticed what appeared to be a body floating in the water.

The discovery was made around 4:00 Sunday afternoon (March 16th).

Maddox had been missing since February 16th; he was last seen at Riverside Campground, about 10:00 that night.

Cherokee County Coroner Broderick Smith told WEIS Radio News, that the exact cause of death has yet-to-be determined – adding, that there is an on-going investigation being conducted by the Cedar Bluff Police Department in an effort to find out just what happened to Maddox; Smith said more details would be released as information is made available by Cedar Bluff Investigators.

Meanwhile family members still await word on any leads in the case regarding the disappearance of 72 year old Lewis King – who has been missing since December 1st (2013).

Family members told WEIS Radio that there were several sightings of King on or around the day he disappeared – and according to those people who spoke with him, the elderly man appeared to be confused but in no apparent danger. 

When last seen he was driving a dark blue 2001 Dodge four-door pickup with a handicapped tag.

King is a white male, weighing 195 pounds with gray hair.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has recently conducted a search of the area known locally as the “Blue Hole”, approximately five miles east of Centre – with no results; we understand that other locations are currently being considered for searches in the coming days.
