We had reports of a two vehicle accident occurring on Highway 278 West three miles West of Piedmont at Knighten’s Crossroads just prior to 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports one of the vehicles involved struck a power pole with at least one individual being trapped in one of the vehicles involved. A landing zone was setup near the scene of the accident with at least one person having been airlifted to an area trauma center for treatment of unspecified injuries.
That portion of Highway 278 near Roy Webb Road was shut down for an extended period of time.
Piedmont Rescue/EMS, Knightens Crossroads Fire Department, Calhoun County deputies and Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene. We will have additional information as soon as the accident report is available.
