Two Women Charged with Taking Drugs While Pregnant

Two Etowah County women have been arrested and charged with Chemical Endangerment of a Child in separate cases.

Sara Jane Chittam age 27 from Rainbow City and Jessica Amber Abner age 29 from Gadsden stand charged with one count each of the Chemical Endangerment of Exposing a Child to an Environment in Which Controlled Substances are Ingested, Produced or Distributed, which is a felony.

According to Etowah County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Brandi Fuller, Chittam admitted to using heroin and marijuana – and tested positive for opiates, marijuana and fentanyl while pregnant. 

Abner tested positive for cocaine and admitted to using the illegal drug while pregnant.

Both women are being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on $10,000 cash bonds.

As a condition of bond, they must successfully complete a drug treatment program and will be supervised by the Etowah Court Referral Office upon release.
