UAB Football Player Dies After Being Shot In Gadsden

A UAB football player was shot Thursday night. He later died from his injuries at UAB Hospital.

According to a statement from UAB, 19-year-old Allen Merrick, who joined UAB’s football team this season, was visiting a home in Gadsden when he was shot.

Merrick was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Gadsden police confirm.

At this point, investigators believe the shooting was an accident.
