Slightly more than 95% of Alabama’s coronavirus deaths have been people with underlying health conditions; that, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health. The median age of the fatalities is 72; the range of victims’ ages, 50 to 92, and 74% of those who died were older than age 65. Of the deaths among those with no underlying conditions 63% were women and 37% were male.

Cardiovascular disease was listed as the leading underlying medical condition among the state’s coronavirus fatalities, found in 63% of those who died, otherwise 57% had “multiple underlying conditions” – followed by diabetes (39%), renal disease (27%) and lung disease (25%).
