A 22-year-old man accused of killing his mother over an argument about his grades appeared in court Tuesday morning.

DeKalb County Judge Steven Whitmire set a $500,000 cash bond for Tyler Ryan Blansit.

Deputies say Blansit confessed to killing his mother, Sherry Ann Blansit, on Friday.

Mrs. Blansit, 45, was found beaten to death behind the family’s home on DeSoto Parkway in Mentone.  She died of blunt force trauma, with the weapon being a baseball bat.

In court Tuesday, Assistant District Attorney Bob Johnston described the incident and said Mrs. Blansit was beaten until she was unrecognizable.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris explains more –

Tyler Blansit was arrested at the scene, and booked in the DeKalb County Detention Center. It’s not clear if he has an attorney yet.  Blansit was a student at UAB.
