US Stocks Close Lower as Oil Rises Ahead of OPEC Meeting

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Wall Street closed lower Monday after the post-election rally, despite gains in oil prices.

The Dow dipped 54.24 (-0.28 percent) to finish at 19,097.90.

The Nasdaq fell 30.11 (-0.56 percent) to close at 5,368.81, while the S&P 500 finished at 2,201.72, down 11.63 (-0.53 percent) from its open.

Oil: Crude oil jumped nearly 2 percent with prices hitting under $47 a barrel ahead of a meeting between the members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries to discuss cutting crude output.

Winners and Losers: Despite a major shopping weekend and Cyber Monday, shares in Amazon.com, Inc. dropped nearly 2 percent.

Time Inc.’s stock price soared 18 percent after the mass media company reportedly rejected a buyout offer from a billionaire investor.
