[VIDEO] Cherokee County Commission Meeting

The Cherokee County Commission held their regular meeting on Tuesday of this week – the meeting was originally scheduled for Monday but was moved due to the Memorial Day Holiday.

Due to the nature of business that had to be conducted, there were a few individuals in attendance however, proper social distancing guidelines were followed.

The commission held a brief Public Hearing to vacate a portion of County Road 44 near the Three Rivers Resort. Attorney’s for both sides (Bill Hawkins, County Commission & Shane Givens, Property Owners) were present at the meeting.

Following a brief presentation by Mr. Givens outlying the legal description and reasoning for the closing, the commission provided an opportunity for anyone to voice their opinion either favor of or against the measure. There being no opposition regarding the matter – the resolution was adopted and approved.

In other business, the commission approved an amendment and restated contract for solid waste disposal services between Alabama Waste Disposal Solutions LLC and the Cherokee County Commission.

Also approved was an agreement with ADS Security for security and fire monitoring at the Cherokee County Public Library, a proposal with IBM System Hardware and Software Maintenance with Vertical VAR in the amount of $5,305 and an agreement with Wood Environmental & Infrastructure Solutions, Inc. for mandatory groundwater monitoring at the old Leesburg Landfill location for the year 202 was approved in the amount of $10,500.

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission will be Monday, June 8th at 10:00 a.m. and will be available by live stream on the WEIS Radio & Cherokee County Commission Facebook page.
