Over 35 boats and crappie anglers from eight states traveled to Cherokee County over the weekend to take part in a Crappie USA (CUSA) event on Weiss Lake.
That event presented Saturday by Bass Pro Shops Cabela’s – as both local and traveling anglers vied for cash, prizes, and an opportunity to compete at the 2020 Cabela’s USA Classic which will feature a guaranteed payout of $125,000 in cash and prizes.
In the Amateur Division, the Centre, Alabama team of Knox and Max Wilson took home the 1st place prize with a total weight of 10.14lbs. The runner up went to Heath Martin of Shepherdsville, KY and Mike Rains of Albertville, Alabama with weight of 8.19lbs and finishing 3rd was Scott Echols of Eva, Alabama and Roger Echols of Somerville, Alabama with at weight of 7.27lbs.
In the Pro Division the Leesburg team of Time Pentecost and Avery Pruitt took 1st place with a weight of 9.57. In 2019, Pentecost and Pruitt took home the 1st Place spot in the Amateur Division. The runner up team was Neal Alvis of Rogersville, TN and Scott Bunch of Morristown, Tennessee with a total weight of 9.18lbs and finishing 3rd was Blain Eilvey of Cape Carterat, NC and Taylor Bolton of Atlanta with a weight of 8.99lbs.
The Big Fish prize went to Terry and Jason Phillips of Villa Rica, Georgia who weighed in a 2.22lb fish.
In conjunction with Crappie USA, the annual Kids Fishing Rodeo also took place earlier that morning.
