Warming Shelter Now Open In Centre

If you need someone warm to go during the bitter cold, a warming shelter has been opened in the Educational Building at Cherokee County Health and Rehab, located at 833 Cedar Bluff Road.

This is for anyone needing a warm place to stay.

There are cots and blankets available but if you have small children or anyone needing special supplies or medicine you need to bring those items with you.

No pets are allowed.

The facility will be available through Wednesday morning.

We also want to remind you that there are also several “warming centers” that have been opened in Etowah County through Wednesday:

The Carnes Recreation Center, 102 Case Avenue in Attalla – opening each day at 8:00am / Elliot Community Center at 2829 West Meighen Boulevard in Gadsden – open 8:00am to 5:00pm daily / the Carver Community Center at 1030 Tuscaloosa Avenue – open from 8:00am to 5:00pm each day.

The coldest temperatures in a decade are upon us. Skies will be clear Monday night with a low around 9-degree. It will be blustery, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph. The wind chill will make it feel more like -5.

Tuesday, will be sunny with a high only around 21.

Tuesday night will be clear, with a low around 13 and a calm wind.

We will finally get above freezing on Wednesday with sunny skies and a high near 40.
